The Chariot – Control and Assertion

Control is a way we can assert our behavior to influence what we have and what we want. We are all human, living within a part of one great interconnected Universe (Humanity). Regardless of the way we may feel, we still can control our behavior.

You ever get stuck in traffic and feel frustrated? The female/male trying to pull out of McDonalds onto route 31 has been waiting and waiting. You feel frustrated and angst to get to your destination but you yield to him/her anyways because they have been waiting to pull out of McDonalds since you were almost a mile away. Someone has to sacrifice the ½ second to allow him/her to pull out.

Human desire to be needed and to acquire power is another important factor motivating control.  There are healthy ways to embrace personal power and belongingness. Our basic bodily needs, health and stability also call for control, which elevate our level of personal power. 

We can abuse our will and assertion when we are out of balance and lacking important elements of security within ourselves. Control can be abused.

Objective Meaning of The Chariot Card

The topic of control and assertion of ‘will’ brings up the objective meaning of the Chariot.

• Am I undermined and not asserting my own will enough out of fear and power others have over me?
• Is there an imbalance within myself and a void that I have causing me to impose my will on to others?
• Am I feeling out of control because my focus is only one sided?
• Have I taken accountability and looked at my own actions that have helped to create my consequences?
• Do I lack trust and lack faith in myself and is this causing me to feel the need to give up on situations that I cannot have total control over?
• Is there some other force or behavior I abuse in order to dodge the responsibility of coping with my situation or emotions?

William Glasser explains that we are not controlled by external events, difficult as they may be. “Nothing we do is caused by what happens outside of us. If we believe that what we do is caused by forces outside of us, we are acting like dead machines, not living people.” We must take accountability and responsibility for our actions. Justice.

As we can see from the synthesis of above context, our choices have much to do with attaining our needs and desires. These factors influence and motivate our levels of control. Personal accountability, responsibility and healthy balance to acquire self-security, influences the level of control we impose on to others and our situations.

Children – innocence, openness, trust, open hearted, tenderness, beginnings.

Cups – emotions, the heart, feelings, love, affections, loving.

Flowers – blossoming, opening, beauty, colour, gift.

Figures – the boy is giving a flower in a cup, the girl is receiving it with open arms. Giving and receiving of emotions/feelings, the ability to share of oneself, potential for growth, openness to love and emotion.

Six of Cups 

This is one of my very favourite cards in the Tarot Pack. The feeling of trust and love that emanates from it is almost palpable.

Shared feelings can lead to closeness and intimacy, love can blossom and flourish in these conditions.

Alternatively the blossoming potential of love, trust, sharing and intimacy can wither and die. 

Nothing in nature (or in the Tarot) is static, everything changes and is in constant motion.  So too this blossoming love, developing in feelings of trust and openness, is in a state of continuous development.

Personal Experience with The Six of Cups Card

When I first started this Email Tarot Reading Site, I did an Egyptian Five Card Spread for myself, about potential development of the website.  The outcome card of the spread was The Six of Cups. Working on the site since then (early 2010) I have become close to several people and developed some deep friendships - I have given much and received much in return - loving and trusting, opening  and sharing, intimacy and gratitude. A very beautiful process.

Here are some thoughts on the Page of Swords

Swords – mental function, thoughts, realm of ideas 
Page – youthful, immature
The young man in the picture holds his sword to his chest, he is defensive and ready to attack if provoked 
Bare landscape, harsh looking environment, windswept and sparse.

Here follow some ideas about the meaning of The Page of Swords Tarot Card.

I was given a deeper insight into this card whilst involved in a short lived virtual relationship recently.  When I asked the cards questions about the relationship and its potential The Page of Swords Card appeared in nearly all of the readings symbolizing to the man in question. I wondered about this at the time…..

He and I conversed by email and got on very well using that medium, we then started talking by phone and again we got on brilliantly and yet there was a slightly harsh edge to his voice which made me wonder about him.  He was also quite a lot younger than me, which would account for the Page part of the symbolism. Also highly intelligent, which would account for the Swords part….

We were at the stage when we were about to meet up in person and I was getting quite excited about the whole thing.  Then……..I was doing a very complex and involved Tarot Reading which literally took me 7 hours to complete.  In the middle of this intense period of concentration, he phoned me and I said I would phone him back when I had finished…….several hours later I returned his call. Only to be met with a less than enthusiastic response.  I could understand why he would be pissed off and I apologized profusely and explained my situation but never heard a thing from him again.

From this I surmised that he was:

• reactive
• defensive
• needy, touchy and sensitive 
• emotionally immature
• quick to judge
• had an easily bruised ego 

So, through working with the cards and at the same time having an intense interpersonal experience I felt that I gained a very real sense of the Page of Swords energy.

Thank you dear Page of Swords. Really, I will be more thoughtful, considerate and careful next time!

I have met wonderful people over the past two years of Intuitive and Email Tarot Reading’s existence and have made some very good friends. Sometimes, when I lost my confidence and allowed myself to drift into self doubt – the support and encouragement of online friends was  invaluable. I really don’t feel I would still be up and running without them.

Intuitive and Email Tarot Reading 2011

 
At the beginning of 2011 I started including Intuitive Impressions as part of my Email Tarot Readings. This move has  proved invaluable, as these impressions add a deeper level of symbolic meaning to the whole reading.

I cannot tell you how gratifying it is to be able to help someone who is distressed and who reaches out to me. I consider it an honour when someone asks me for a reading and I always endeavour to do my utmost to help.

In June 2011 my beloved soul mate/friend/teacher passed over and it was almost impossible for me to give readings then and for about four months afterwards.

I began an Intuition Development Newsletter towards the end of the 2011 and  so this is still in its infancy.

2012

I have always had a very good feeling about 2012 and yes, life certainly seems to be moving on a pace personally and collectively. Personally – I am moving from Ireland back to the UK and I feel a great sense of peace growing inside me.  Collectively – there seems to be much turmoil and unrest in the world, while at the same time many people are waking up to the true beauty and power of their inner nature.

I have been wondering for a while, whether or not to add a Forum to Intuitive and Email Tarot Reading and I have decided that I will set this up in 2012.  This would allow people to ask questions and interact with me and also with each other. It would seem like a good idea both for the site and for anyone interested in learning more about Tarot, Intuition and Spirituality. I will do this when I have moved back to the UK at the end of February.

I am particularly interested in helping other people to develop and use their own intuitive powers and I intend to continue doing this in 2012.

The Ace of Cups - Tarot Card Meaning

In this post I will outline some meanings for the Ace of Cups Tarot Card

A new start in love

My own feelings about the Ace of Cups Tarot Card

A great blessing is being bestowed, love is being offered. The emotions are being stirred and everything is possible. There is so much potential represented in the Ace of Cups Tarot Card.

How exciting and lovely it is when love is offered.  The heart can be touched, if it is open enough to be touched that is.

In the Ace of Cups Card, the symbol of the bird above the cup seems to me to be giving a blessing.  The circle with the cross reminds me of a communion wafer.

Ace of Cups – Symbolism 

The bird represents a dove, the messenger of hope and peace.   The cross represents the spirit reaching to earth and “crossing” through the human body/the physical plane. The horizontal line represents the physical, the earth, the material world. The circle represents the whole, universality and connection.

The Ace of Cups is saying that what is being offered through love is nothing less than divine.

The cup/the vessel/container of love can be a person, thing, situation, job, animal. 

In the Ace of Cups Tarot Card, the cup itself is overflowing with liquid, which falls into and mingles with the waters below.  To me this symbolizes;

The way the emotion of love connects you with everything and everyone else.

How love dissolves barriers and unites people.

How the emotions link you with the mysterious ebb and flow of life.

How the emotion of love can take you outside of your ego centred self.

Whose is the hand that is offering this gift of love? For in whatever way love comes to you, it is part of the One Source of Love. Love is calling  for the small sense of self to dissolve into the whole.

The Ace of Cups is full of potential.  What are you going to do with this precious gift that is being offered to you?

Gillian Knebel: Perspectives on intuition and effective preparation for intuitive counsel

“Welcome to Intuitive impressions by Gillian Knebel. I was very intrigued to see a new original style of Tarot card reading by Ms. Gillian Knebel. She is the only Tarot reader that has yet to establish a website that offers these Intuitive Impressions. I was pleased to be able to interview and ask Ms. Knebel some valuable questions that pertain to Intuition. Gillian was kind enough to offer her time. “

How much time do you spend on one client to do an intuitive reading?

Usually it takes me an hour and a half. I have to spend time to clear myself of my own thoughts while tuning in to my sacred space. It takes much energy.

Describe your method to receive guidance for your clients concerns.

I first propose the question once I have reached the sacred space. I simply allow the unconscious to guide me on a journey along with inviting the Divine Spirit into the reading. Once I have finished the intuitive journey I draw tarot cards. The Tarot Spread or the numbers of cards I use depend on the nature of the client’s question. As almost always, the tarot cards synchronize with my journey information.

What do you conclude from the Tarot cards and how?

I have a great understanding of the cards after working with them for so many years. I now can look at them collectively and gather a main message. I can look at them as a whole and gather sentences. I often use the symbolism to gather meanings. I do get very strong feelings towards the cards while meditating upon them which helps to interpret the message they are sending. I have a strong ability for clairsentience, an inner knowing and guidance of feeling my way to the meaning of the message.

How have your Intuitive Abilities helped you along the way?

I feel that it takes care of me. I have become an eccentric. The ability has actually helped me with my eating. I simply know what and when to eat. I now can listen to my body and that intimacy has helped me to nurture my entire being. One really important achievement I have gained from my intuition is the mastery of knowing my divine path. I have achieved living in my truth rather than making decisions based on what others expect of me and not being happy with the outcomes.

What is your main goal to be obtained from establishing your website, Intuitive Impressions?

The immediate effect I wish to create is reducing the distress in other people’s lives. I want to help Humanity by being a conduit of intuitive inspiration. I also wish to empower Humanity and enlighten others about their Divine Self and own intuition.

What are a few things you would tell a client asking you about enlightenment of their eccentric self?

I see too many people giving away their personal power by relying on other sources incessantly for guidance. We all need help getting through problems but we must not forget that even the outside help is to support triggering the answers that always lie within us. It is important for people to trust in themselves for the answers.

One other vital factor for anyone using divination for guidance, is to propose their question with direct clarification of intent. It is important when you are  giving or receiving a reading, to make sure there is a meeting of minds. You must make the intent clear so the guidance may also be clear.

 * Carrying our burdens with us for a goal which ensures a greater future.

An example of this energy could be preparing for a trial, a group of people working together on a community project outside their day jobs, a family preparing for a move, or attending college atop your job, family and other many responsibilities.

The Ten of Wands Tarot Card will always entail some oppression (pressure). This card does mean you will be bearing the loads and you will be left alone with bearing all the burdens; you will be the bearer of all the duties.

The Ten of Wands Tarot Card will ask you if you are burdening yourself with over extension. Oppression challenges us on an emotional level. Are we yielding to others or a stigma? Are we the cause of our burdens? How can I have a clear vision if I am shouldering too many burdens? Do I always have to shoulder another ones burdens? Can I say no? Are you too narrowly focused and overcommited to one cause?

The Ten of Wands Tarot Card asks you to take a re-stock of your current lifestyle. Assess your deficiencies and excess. Take time to reflect from your experiences and regroup your priorities. Here is a story that pertains to a client sufficing the Ten of Wands energy:

Client X is living alone and does not have any family or friends. X just moved into a new town. X enrolled in college. X needs to find work while in College. X meets a friend who turns out to be a stalker while X is in college burdened with loads of homework and the college has yet to give X an advisor. X is struggling to know where they stand in college due to no advisor. X is burdened with having to find the right path in their college education and is still trying to find work in between all of the other pressures. X is being burdened by other students for help on homework and by this stalker who bombards X’s boundaries with constant threatening and sexually harassing phone calls, texts, visits to X’s apartment late at night, popping up many times while at college or the store etc. During this entire time X has no emotional support.

Here is  a Tarot Spread based on  the The Six Directions.

The six directions are North, South, East, West, Great Mother Earth and Great Spirit Sky.

I lay the cards out – one card for each direction. Now I hasten to add, this is my particular way of doing this and other people may have different ideas:

1. East, air, mental faculty. thought
2. South, fire, sexuality, passion, drive
3. West, water, emotions, feelings
4. North, earth, physicality, the body
5. Great Mother – connection to the Earth
6. Father Sky – connection to Great Spirit 

The Six Directions Tarot Spread

Here is a practical example of the spread:

I have been wondering for a while, given the general economic situation, together with the fact that I like the idea, about bartering tarot readings. So with this idea in mind I drew the cards for the Six Directions:

 1. Card on the right, East, air, mental faculties. thought

The Sun, bright ideas, optimistic thoughts, hopeful and promising ideas, thinking things will turn out well.

2. Card on the bottom, South, fire, sexuality, passion, drive

Six of Wands, victory won through passion, drive creating success, coming out on top with zeal and fire.

3. Card on the left, West, water, emotions, feelings

Queen of Pentacles, dealing with peoples feelings, grounded emotionally, well directed feelings, good use of emotions, kind feelings, sharing emotions.

4. Card on the top, North, earth, physicality, the body

Six of Cups, physical connection, sharing physical things, getting close through material objects, sharing precious things.

5. Card on the left, Great Mother – connection to the Earth

Three of Pentacles, learning about connection to the Earth, student of Mother Earth, apprenticeship to the Great Mother.

6. Card on the right, Father Sky – connection to Great Spirit 

Six of Pentacles, dedicated service to Great Spirit, honouring Spirit with time, energy and material resources, many calls on time and energy from Great Spirit.

 Conclusion

Bartering Tarot Readings would seem like a pretty good idea from all aspects of The Six Directions Tarot Spread!!

In my opinion, the main difference between an Intuitive Tarot Reading and an ‘ordinary’ (not that any reading can be ordinary!) Tarot Reading, is that the reader draws their tarot interpretation, directly from their intuition, rather than from a set meaning, learned from a book or other outside source.

Take for example, the Ace of Swords Card in the outcome position of a tarot spread. 

Here is a set meaning of the Ace of Swords Tarot Card:

Focus, force, clarity, insight, intensity. The appearance of this card in a reading is like drawing the sword from the stone.  The card is saying that you do have, the intelligence, strength and foresight to be able to tackle and deal successfully with whatever life is throwing your way.

So, in the outcome position of a tarot spread the Ace of Swords card, would indicate that the Querent (person asking the question) will have the strength and wherewithal to handle the situation at hand. It probably will not be easy, but the Querent will deal with the situation successfully in the long run.

Reading the Card Intuitively

This is only an example to give you an idea of what I am describing.

Looking at the Ace of Swords Card, the reader senses a feeling of unease, they see the sword wobbling slightly where it stands and see someone other than the Querent, attempting to pick it up.  So, using their intuition the reader interprets the Ace of Swords Card slightly differently, from the set meaning:  That the Querent may be fearful and have difficulty in accessing the power and strength needed, to make a success of the situation. Being forewarned of this tendency, gives the Querent the opportunity to face their fears and exercise caution, especially with regard to giving their power away.

Speaking as someone who began by giving Tarot Readings strictly from the set meanings of the cards.  Over time and with experience, I have now gained the self confidence to use the intuitive approach.
