I am going to write a little about how intuitive readings work, from my own experience. Other Intuitives will have  different experiences/ways of working and so will describe things differently.

In my opinion, the main difference between an Intuitive Tarot Reading and an ‘ordinary’ (not that any reading can be ordinary!) Tarot Reading, is that the reader draws their tarot interpretation, directly from their intuition, rather than from a set meaning, learned from a book or other outside source.

Take for example, the Ace of Swords Card in the outcome position of a tarot spread.

Ace of Swords Intuitive Tarot Readings/How They Work

Here is a set meaning of the Ace of Swords Tarot Card:

Focus, force, clarity, insight, intensity. The appearance of this card in a reading is like drawing the sword from the stone.  The card is saying that you do have, the intelligence, strength and foresight to be able to tackle and deal successfully with whatever life is throwing your way.

So, in the outcome position of a tarot spread the Ace of Swords card, would indicate that the Querent (person asking the question) will have the strength and wherewithal to handle the situation at hand. It probably will not be easy, but the Querent will deal with the situation successfully in the long run.

Reading the Card Intuitively

This is only an example to give you an idea of what I am describing.

Looking at the Ace of Swords Card, the reader senses a feeling of unease, they see the sword wobbling slightly where it stands and see someone other than the Querent, attempting to pick it up.  So, using their intuition the reader interprets the Ace of Swords Card slightly differently, from the set meaning:  That the Querent may be fearful and have difficulty in accessing the power and strength needed, to make a success of the situation. Being forewarned of this tendency, gives the Querent the opportunity to face their fears and exercise caution, especially with regard to giving their power away.

Speaking as someone who began by giving Tarot Readings strictly from the set meanings of the cards.  Over time and with experience, I have now gained the self confidence to use the intuitive approach.

I hope this has given you some understanding of Intuitive Tarot Readings and how they work.

Tarot Reading – Benefits Of Email Readings

Patricia Spencer April 2011 263x300 Tarot Reading Benefits Of Email Readings

I have a strong preference for giving readings by email – rather than by phone, chat, video or a face to face – having practiced these various methods.  I am writing this blog post to outline a few of Benefits Of Email Readings.

The Querant’s Perspective

When you receive a tarot reading by email, you receive valuable information, that can be referred back to at any time.  There are often many levels to a reading, which cannot all be perceived immediately. So, unless a reading is recorded in some way, vital pieces of wisdom and guidance, both for the present and future, could be missed. It’s just not possible to absorb all the information at immediately.

Other ways of receiving a reading.

Often a phone or chat reading is priced by the minute and can prove quite expensive (when I used to give phone and chat readings on tarot lines, I was acutely aware of the charges mounting up as the minutes ticked by).

Why I prefer to give readings by email:

I prefer giving readings by email, as I communicate more effectively through the written rather than spoken word. Also, I can take my time over a reading, without the external pressure of a client’s need for an on the spot answer. I need to be quiet and undisturbed in order to meditate deeply whilst giving a reading.   I find that adding pictures of the cards, also helps to clarify the interpretation for the client.

If you would like to experience the benefits of email readings, please click here to order your tarot reading from me.

1) What is The Tarot?
The Tarot is a deck made up of 78 colorful cards. The Tarot deck is divided into a) Major Arcana and b) Minor Arcana and it contains 22 symbolic cards and 56 suit cards – wands, swords, cups, and pentacles.

The Major Arcana consists of: the Magician, the High Priestess, the Empress, the Emperor, the Hierophant, the Lovers, the Chariot, Strength, the Hermit, the Wheel of Fortune, Justice, the Hanged Man, Death, Temperance, the Devil, the Tower, the Star, the Moon, the Sun, Judgment and the World.

The Minor Arcana (the suits) consists of the aces, twos, threes, fours, fives, sixes, sevens, eights, nines, tens, pages, knights, queens, and kings of Wands, Swords, Cups and Pentacles.

The word “Tarot” comes from the Italian word “Tarocchi,” a card game originally termed “carte datrionfi” – “cards with trumps.” It has been theorized that the name was shortened from “Tarocchi” to “Taro” and evolved over time into the French “Tarot”.  From a purely historical perspective, there is evidence to suggest that the cards came into being in the Northern Italian Courts, during the mid -15th century. People with more esoteric leanings maintain that the cards have their roots in the ancient mysteries of Egypt and the mythical city of Atlantis.  Here is an interesting Tarot History Site.

2) What Is a Tarot Reading?
Basically speaking; a Tarot Reading is given by a Tarot Reader to a Querent (a person asking for a reading). The cards are laid out by the Reader in a variety of different layouts (or spreads). Meanings are asigned to the cards themselves and their placement within the spread influences the interpretation of the individual cards and the meaning of the cards taken as a whole. A Tarot Reading can be used as a form of divination and is often given with the assumption that the cards can give insight into current and possible future situations. The Tarot can also be used to give direction and guidance.

3) What Isn’t A Tarot Reading?
A Tarot Reading is not evil nor a scam, it is not magic and you do not have to be a witch or a psychic to give a reading!

4) Are The Tarot Cards Magic?
Virtually no one who has any knowledge or experience with Tarot Cards believes that the cards themselves are magic. This is a superstition. Tarot cards aren’t magic. They are cardboard!

5) How Do Tarot Readings Work?
The Tarot is part of the living sea of energy in which everything and everyone is connected. When you ask the Tarot a question you link up to all that is. The pictures on the cards are expressions of the life forces that are moving through you, at any given point in time. The Tarot Cards are symbolic pictures of the influences within your life. The Tarot can also be seen as a living picture book that changes every time we read it. It can help us to decide on the most suitable course of action; when to move and when to wait, or when to look in another direction entirely. Also it can show hidden agendas and solutions we may have previously overlooked. The Tarot does not take away our free will or our ability to make the best choices for ourselves and it certainly doesn’t predict a fixed unchanging future. We have free will and are always able to change the path we are on. A Tarot Reading gives us information – it does not live our lives for us.

6) Do You Have to be Psychic to read Tarot?
Anyone can read the Tarot cards, it’s just a matter of memorizing some basic meanings and getting used to the different cards in the deck. I personally, believe that everyone has psychic abilities that are latent and are for the most part left uncultivated. Reading the Tarot can help wake up dormant intuitive and psychic powers.

7) What Is the Tarot Best Used For?
The Tarot can be used for divination and prediction, it can also be used to also offer insight, direction and guidance. The future is not fixed or fated, it changes with experience, with knowledge and through choice. A Tarot reading can assist you in making these choices, it cannot make them for you.

icon cool Tarot Card Reading The Basics How Accurate Are Tarot Readings?
Very talented and experienced readers have high accuracy, others will have accuracy rates that vary. Tarot cards in themselves are accurate, but if the person reading them does not interpret them to fit the querent, then the reading will not be accurate, even if the cards are. There are certain conditions that need to be met when giving and receiving a Tarot Reading. When all the conditions are met properly, the accuracy/outcome of a tarot reading can be very good.

9) What Conditions Determine A Good Tarot Reading?
The Reader
Your Question
Your preparation/attitude
The Tarot Reader’s Preparation/attitude

10) How To Find A Good Tarot Reader?
Seek someone with knowledge and a good reputation. You can ask friends and relatives to
recommend a good tarot reader, if you know they have sought this kind of advice in the past.
Alternatively, if looking online, seek out someone you feel comfortable with and resonate with and read the testimonials that have been given about their readings. Ask Spirit / God / Higher Self (whatever name you feel comfortable with) to guide you to the right reader.

11) How To Prepare For A Reading?
The tarot is indeed a powerful tool to use for guidance. You must always remember however, that its effectiveness is determined by several components: So, before you ask for your reading sit peacefully for a little while adopting an attitude of trust, openness and love. When you feel completely settled within yourself ask the Tarot your question…

12) How To Ask The Tarot A Question?
This is a very important component of receiving a good and satisfying reading and its not something to rush into. How you ask the question and how you word it affects the answer that the cards are able to give to you. You should put a lot of consideration into this.. You will want to ask the cards something that will give you insight into your problem or situation. The Tarot can provide guidance about relationships and projects. So ask how best to accomplish what you want rather than if you will accomplish it.

Consult the Tarot as if you were asking the advice of a good friend
Try to ask a specific question or ask about a particular area of your life

13) How Can I Trust What A Tarot Reading Tells Me?
Once you have received your answers from the Tarot, sit with them for a little while. Watch how the answers affect you both physically, mentally and emotionall. Have an open mind as you mull over the messages from the cards and see how they relate to your own life. You may need to think about the answers you receive for a few days before you can really understand what the reading is saying to you. I personally, will always urge you to follow your own intuition. So if the reading seems to counteract what you feel at a deep level, then I would urge you to listen to what your intuition is telling you, over and above the messages that you have received from the cards.

14) How To Use The Guidance Received From A Tarot Reading?
Look at the pictures on the cards that have been drawn for you, as well as working with the
interpretation that has been given to you in words. The pictoral messages have the ability to bypass the logical mind and can work in a very direct way upon your understanding. Put the reading somewhere where you can refer to it frequently. Let the ideas seep into your mind. Look at the reading last thing at night and let the messages from the cards speak to you as you sleep. Ask for further clarification on the reading from your dreams. As a result you may well wake up feeling inspired, with fresh insight, new ideas and with a deep knowing of the direction you need to take in your life.

High Priestess001 168x300 Tarot Guidance

The Tarot is pre-eminent as a guidance tool. The symbolic meanings of the cards, are always pertinent, no matter what the question. Tarot Guidance can often give you a fresh  perspective and throw light upon the challenges, dilemmas and obstacles you face. This can be very helpful indeed.

The Tarot can sometimes show the shift required to facilitate the external change that is hoped for. At the very least, seeing external events in a different light makes difficult times easier to bear.

Its true for me and I think that you, dear reader, may well have also experienced this in your life: What seems at one moment to be a dreadful calamity, can be seen in hindsight or in a new light, to be an opportunity, a blessing in disguise and sometimes even a fresh new start.

The Tarot helps navigate through the turbulent and calm waters, showing the internal and external factors that are at play. The past influences and possible future outcomes. I say ‘possible’ because in my opinion, especially in the light of the advances in science in the field of Quantum Physics. The future is one of probabiliy/possibility. The choices and attitudes taken in the present moment, determine which  possible future become reality.

In my opinion, this is the value of Tarot Guidance.  Rather than predicting the future, it can help you to understand past influences and use the raw materials of your present circumstances to create your future.

Temperance001 172x300 Tarot Card Readings How They Work

I offer some insights into how Tarot Card Readings work:

In my opinion, we humans each with our unique name, family, history and social setting, tend to believe the illusion that we are separate from one another. Yet in truth we are all part of the boundless self in which all things are one, we are all connected.

When I am asked for a reading its like being dialled up through the ethers and a conscious connection is made between myself and the person asking for the reading.

I attended an Animal Communication course recently which further expanded my understanding of the oneness and connection between us all.  As the workshop leader said; ‘If you heard what was going on in the thoughts of every animal you passed in the street, your mind would be bombarded by their thoughts and feelings continuously.  Its necessary therefore to concentrate your mind and energy on one individual to receive their communications’.

Likewise, it is necessary for me to be connected to someone in order to be able to give them a reading. This happens simply and easily when I am asked for one, even by someone half way around the world.

For me there is a definite process involved in giving a reading and this process has three separate stages.

1) Tuning In

It is of the utmost importance to be in the right space within myself to give the Reading. I meditate and ask for help from Great Spirit and then concentrate my mind and energies upon the person who has requested the reading.

2)  Dealing The Cards

I have several different packs of cards and use whichever pack I feel drawn to, though usually I use the Rider Waite pack, which is like a reliable old friend to me. I hold the person’s question in my mind and use my intuition to draw cards from the pack, into whichever spread seems appropriate for the reading.

3)  Interpretation

The Tarot Cards speak a symbolic language that is understood by my intuition. My logical mind gathers and sorts this intuitive information into concepts, these I then convert into words and I am then able to communicate the information to the person asking for the Tarot Reading.

To me, the  process of giving a reading is sacred and I feel honoured to be able to give readings to others, especially when they are experiencing difficulty or doubt in their lives.

Eternal Love001 190x300 Relationship Questions Ask The Tarot

Sometimes in life, its difficult to figure out what is going on within a relationship. You don’t know quite how the other partner is feeling, can’t get to grips with what you are sensing yourself, you are unsure about where the relationship is heading and sometimes you are even wondering, if its for the best to stay together.

For, love and relationships have the potential to be one of the most fulfilling areas of our lives.  Yet they can also be agonizing places, full of sadness and confusion.

This is where the Tarot can come in and be extremely helpful, as indeed I have found it to be in my own life.

Here are a few examples of questions that you can ask the Tarot.

These are only meant as guidelines, you can of course ask your own questions, there is no need to follow these ideas rigidly:

Where is my relationship with (—) heading in the next (–) months?

How does (—) feel about me now?

What can be done to improve my relationship with (—)?

What is the greatest potential in this relationship?

What can I learn from what is happening in this relationship now?

Is it possible to have a long term committed relationship with (—)?

The Process

I have found that the best way for me to answer your questions, especially with love and relationship issues, is through an email tarot conversation.

How this works;

You ask the cards your questions and I email you the Tarot’s answers and then receive your feedback on what the cards have said to you. As I do this, further insights come to me and we discover together, what is going on within your relationship, where it is heading and the options open to you.

This process is almost like that of a face to face reading, with the added bonus, that you have the words and pictures to keep and refer to, any time you want.

When answering relationship questions I include, if appropriate, a relationship spread with the reading. This outlines the underlying dynamics within a relationship and can be very helpful and enlightening.

I work with the idea, that the future is one of endless possibility and that it is how you deal with the present, that determines your future.

It was a great relief, when a trusted spiritual teacher said to me, not so long ago: ‘You can transcend your Astrological Chart’.

Sue fairy cards002 207x300 Tarot Readings Mirroring Our Lives

Since I started this email tarot reading site I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with many wonderful people.  It is a privilege to be able to give tarot readings and help people with the issues that they face in their lives.

One of the greatest things I feel that I can do with my readings, is give people insight into what is happening in their lives, which allows them greater freedom, to make enlightened choices.

Science, most especially Quantum Physics, is discovering what mystics have known for eons, that everything is connected. The rational and analytical way of perceiving the world that we have been taught for so long, is gradually being replaced by a new world view.

For myself, working with the Tarot teaches me about the connection between all things on a very practical level.  When someone asks me for a reading, I connect with them through my intuition and through the physical medium of the cards. This connection is made instantly and works beyond time and space.  It allows both me and the person asking for the reading, to touch and be touched by Divine Guidance / the Muse / Higher Self / Energy / the Ethers / Great Spirit / the Angels (whatever name you feel comfortable calling it).

The cards are a mirror to what is going on in our lives, at given a point in time.  The influences that have shaped us, including our thought patterns and emotional tendancies are depicted clearly in the cards.  The cards also show where these tendancies will lead us. The exciting and empowering part of all this is, that if we don’t like what we see in the mirror of the Tarot, we can do something about it.

The teachings of The Law of Attraction, Abraham Hicks and many others, show us that how we think, feel and envisage in the present, influences how life will manifest for us in the future. Using the Tarot as a mirror to our present situation, we are given the insight and oppotunity, to be able to take the small steps and make the necessary changes, to create the giant leap into the future that we so desire.

The Tarot acts as a bridge between worlds, showing that we can be masters of our destiny, not just the victims of an unyielding fate. The more I work with the Tarot, the more in awe I become of it.

Knight of Cups0012 171x300 Love And Relationship AdviceWhy do people seek love and relationship advice from the Tarot?

The Tarot is for many, including me, an impartial source of comfort, insight and wisdom. This impartiality is important, for often family members and friends can offer us advice, but it is coloured by their perception of our situation. Their well meaning words can seem annoying or down right interfering, even if offered with the best will in the world.

The Tarot gives love and relationship advice and simple and profound insight into this complicated area of life.

Love and relationship issues can sometimes overwhelm us with conflicting emotions. At such times, its difficult to keep our heads above water, as we struggle with desires, needs and expectations. Its sometimes impossible to see clearly – wondering how the other person is feeling about us, whether what we are feeling is delusional, where the relationship is going?

Synchronicity And The Tarot

Maybe it seems arbitrary and illogical to you, that a pack of cards can give love and relationship advice? Yet the Tarot works within the world of synchronicity, where nothing happens just ‘by chance’ and all things are connected.

This is especially true in the area of love and relationships, where seeming ‘coincidences’  happen all the time - I have experienced this to be very true in my life. How about you?

The Language Of The Tarot

When you ask for the advice of the Tarot, the symbols on the cards and the way that they are arranged in the Tarot Spread, are messages to you from your Higher Self (The part of you that is infinite, wise and all-knowing). The cards deliver the messages to you, in the Tarot’s symbolic language of pictures. The Tarot reader interprets these symbols into everyday words that you can understand.

As well as giving clear insight and wisdom, the Tarot offers guidance as to the best way forward in any given situation. It is then up to the querent (the person asking for the reading) as to what they then do, with the advice they have been given.

Email Tarot Readings

In my own readings I use the Rider Waite Tarot for a general reading and to answer specific questions. Such as: ‘What is he feeling towards me now?’ ‘What will be the outcome of this situation?’  ‘Will he come back to me?’ etc.  I then use Angel, Fairy and Animal cards, for healing and affirmations.

water1 The Tarot And The River Of LifeIn explaining how a tarot reading works and why a reading can be so helpful, I sometimes use the analogy or the river of life.

Remember the old adage; ‘Row row row your boat gently down the stream, merrily merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream’.

A Tarot Reading can be likened to a snapshot, that shows you exactly where you are on the river of your life.  The cards indicate your progress along the river; how far you have come, how the current is flowing, how near the bank you are and how fast or slow you are paddling.  The cards also indicate the conditions you have already passed through and give you a glimpse of the obstacles yet to come.

The river goes on till it reaches the ocean, there is no stopping it.  There will be quiet times when you can relax, watch the stars and paddle your feet over the side. There will be other times when the current is strong and your strength very weak and you feel that you can’t keep afloat.

The Tarot allows you to see things just beyond the next bend in the river. It can show you how to reposition yourself in the water’s flow and gives you the option to change the length of your stroke, to better be able to deal with whatever lies ahead.  It also allows you to see the waters you have gone through in a new light, conserve your strength when necessary and celebrate the whole journey and flow that is life itself.

tarot cards 11 300x165 The Process Of Giving A Reading

For me (Gillian) there is a very definite process involved in the process of giving a reading and this process has three separate stages, which I will describe below:

1) Tuning In

It is of the utmost importance to be in the right space within myself to give a Tarot Reading.  I have a beautiful  room where I meditate to become quiet and centred. I ask for help from Great Spirit and then concentrate my mind and energies upon the person who has requested a reading from me.

2)  Dealing The Cards

I have several different packs of cards and use whichever pack I feel drawn to.  I often use a selection of  packs to give an email reading and will lay the spreads out one on top of the other, separating each spread with a piece of silk.

I use a number of different spreads in my email tarot readings: I like to start by giving a general spread with the Rider Waite Tarot and then pick out other cards from my Angel, Fairy, Egyptian and Animal Packs.  I use a five card spread, to answer a specific question and find this extremely accurate.

3)  Interpretation

The Tarot Cards speak a symbolic language that is understood by the intuition. My logical mind gathers and sorts the intuitive information into concepts, which are then converted into another symbolic language – that of words, to be communicated in writing to the person asking for the Tarot Reading.

————–

Reading back over this post written when I first set up this site over 18 months ago, I have changed my style of giving a reading somewhat. The three step process remains the same, but  now I go on an inner Journey (a Shamanic practice) to ask my question and then lay out about four or five cards still asking the same question.  I  interpret the cards in the light of the symbolism and information I have received on my inner Journey.  I find this a fascinating, informative and enlightening way of giving a reading.

tarot cards 150x150 Tarot Readings How They WorkTo the logical mind it doesn’t make any sense at all, that a Tarot Reading done at a distance, for a person who I will never ever meet, could possibly have any veracity or merit to it at all.

To the mystical mind, to the right brain that knows that all things are connected, of course an Email Tarot Reading is going to be spot on, full of wisdom and very helpful for the person who requested it.

Everything in the Universe is connected, each human connected up one to another, each influencing one another, every moment of the time .

When I give a reading I’m made very much aware of this connection. The pictures on the Tarot Cards are like symbols picked out of the ethers, messages from one mind to another, to be deciphered and communicated from one to another for guidance.

There are some fascinating scientific studies in the field of Quantum Physics, coming to light nowadays.  These show that when two subatomic particles are separated even by huge distances, there is instant communication between them.  Tarot, Telepathy and other such non physical forms of  communication fit easily into the Quantum view of the world we live in.
